01Our mission
To represent, protect and advance the interests of Nigerian students across Türkiye while building a strong, informed and connected student community.
NANS Türkiye is committed to promoting student welfare, academic excellence, equal access to opportunities and meaningful representation. We work to connect students with reliable information, educational and professional opportunities, community support and the appropriate channels for addressing the challenges they may encounter while studying and living in Türkiye.
Through responsible leadership, collaboration with student associations, institutions and relevant stakeholders, we strive to ensure that Nigerian students are heard, supported and empowered to succeed.
02Our vision
To build a respected, inclusive and future-focused Nigerian student community in Türkiye where every student has the opportunity to belong, grow, thrive and lead.
We envision a community that goes beyond geographical boundaries — connecting Nigerian students across universities and cities, strengthening cooperation among student associations and creating pathways for academic, professional and personal development.
Our goal is a NANS Türkiye where no Nigerian student feels isolated or without direction, and where the strength of our collective community creates opportunities for everyone.
03What guides us
Our work is guided by unity, service, integrity, accountability, inclusion, cultural pride, excellence and progress.
These values shape how we represent students, make decisions, build partnerships and serve our community. We believe leadership must remain student-focused, transparent and responsible, while respecting the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives within the Nigerian student community.
We are committed to building bridges rather than divisions, creating opportunities rather than barriers, and leaving a stronger student community for those who come after us.
04Our heritage
NANS Türkiye is part of the broader tradition of Nigerian student representation and advocacy.
The Nigerian student movement has a long history of organizing around education, student welfare and national issues. The roots of today’s National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) can be traced to the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS), established in 1956. Following the events surrounding the historic 1978 “Ali Must Go” student protests and the subsequent proscription of NUNS, the student movement was reorganized, leading to the emergence of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in 1980.
Over the decades, NANS has remained an important voice within Nigeria’s student community, advocating for students and contributing to conversations surrounding education, welfare and national development.
NANS Türkiye carries that tradition into the international student community, providing a platform through which Nigerian students across Türkiye can connect, participate, access opportunities and receive representation and support relevant to their experience abroad.
